The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them.

- Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Where I Started

Since childhood, my dreams have always been bigger than my reality. For over forty years, my motto has been "Why not?" I grew up with more love than resources but always believed I could create a life beyond my imagination. And I did—after graduating from UC Irvine, I built a successful food startup and later climbed the corporate ladder. But despite all the outward success, corporate life—full of endless meetings, nonstop emails, and profit-over-people mindsets—was burning me out. I was at a breaking point.

What Changed

In 2020, I made a choice: What if, instead of chasing more, I focused on needing less? I started asking the hard questions: What really matters to me? What does success mean to me? Am I happy? How can I make a living without compromising my values? So, I took the leap—I left corporate America, moved to a city with a lower cost of living, bought a home for half the price of my first, and slashed my budget. I started generating income through art, teaching, and consulting. All of the sudden, I had more than enough. Enough money, time, freedom, peace, and energy. And with that came deep resounding joy.

And now?

Now, I live in a 100-year-old house on the island of Lesvos in the Aegean Sea, with the love of my life by my side. I spend my days tending to stray cats, running through cobblestone streets, writing, cooking with local ingredients, and painting the scenery. I embraced the slower, more intentional life I had always dreamed of.

I created Eternal Recess to share my adventures with you—because I know there are so many of us who crave freedom, balance, and joy. I’m still a work in progress, but I wouldn’t trade this unconventional life for anything.

 FAQs

  • Why 'Eternal Recess'?
As a child I would do nearly anything to extend my recess time in school (up to and including some devious behavior)! The name Eternal Recess appealed to me as a way to signify the desire to live a life that still prioritizes play, fun, and ease!

  • Rose Cameron - Coaching
I am obsessed with living an extraordinary purpose-driven life. I firmly believe that anything is possible with the right mindset and effort behind it. I help others navigate the overwhelming feeling of what next, that starts popping up as you near 40. I want to reframe this time in life as an opportunity to truly get in the pilot’s seat and chart a course that brings you fulfillment and deep joy. May your next chapter be your best!

    Eternal Recess
I launched Eternal Recess as a way to share my passion for travel, food and ways I’ve made my life easier! I use affiliate links in a number of blog posts and social media posts as a way to earn a small percentage (at no cost to you) for sharing things I use and love!

    R. Cameron Art
I am a lifelong artist. While I am not selling my large-scale oil paintings in person at this time, I am offering a variety of online courses and tutorials both through my own platform and Kara Bullock Art School. I firmly believe that art can benefit everyone - whether you think you are an artist or not! Seeing life through a creative lens is both an exercise in mindfulness and gratitude.

  • You can achieve whatever you want if you are willing to dream big enough and are willing to put in the work to get there.

I think most people (myself included) fail by having dreams that are too small. Your parents want to see you safe, your boss wants you to show up on Monday, your friends want consistency. What do you want? What do you like? What excites you?

  • I grew up in Southern California in the United States then moved to Seattle, WA and Portland, OR. I am currently living between our 100-year old home in the little village of Plomari on the Greek island of Lesvos, the United States and assorted travel destinations we’ve sprinkled through the year!

    1. I’m a retired skydiver (500+ jumps)

    2. I have done multiple triathlons (half-ironman, Ironman, olympic and sprint distance)

    3. I have a huge affinity for animals

    4. I have a strange dislike of fruit stickers (specifically the gummy glue).

    5. I am a procrastinator who sometimes struggles with small decisions (where to go for dinner), but can decide to make life-altering choices at the drop of a hat (let’s sell the house)!

  • I spent over a decade in the food industry (a notoriously tough industry for a reason)! I coupled my skills as a chef with my business acumen and pivoted our small start-up into a specialty co-manufacturer for rapidly expanding national CPG brands.

Somewhere along the way we wound up with extremely expensive equipment, almost 50 staff and we went from handcrafting food to producing over 30,000 lbs of food a day, every single day. While commercial production has many merits (hello, making money!), it forced me to reconsider if and in what capacity I wanted to cook professionally.
