Recipe: Iced Protein Freddo

Tired of boring protein shakes? Me too!

Recent studies have shown that increasing protein intake, particularly for individuals over 40 years of age, can significantly benefit both overall health and weight management. As we age, our metabolism tends to slow down, and maintaining muscle mass becomes more difficult. Protein plays a key role in counteracting these changes.

5 Key Benefits of Protein:

  1. Maintaining Muscle Mass and Strength

  2. Weight Management

  3. Supporting Metabolism

  4. Improved Bone Health

  5. Blood Sugar Control

I tend to eat a pretty plant-heavy diet with lean protein sources but still find that I need to supplement. Post-workout is a great time for a shake but they can get b o r i n g. I was inspired by the Greek favorite summer drink (no, not aperol spritzes, sorry!) but Φρέντο Καφέ - Freddo Cafe. I blend (or shake) iced coffee I’ve made in the morning and tucked in the fridge for a few hours with protein powder and top it with foamed almond milk. You can use the milk of your choice and if you want to be extra fancy - sprinkle with cinnamon! If you’ve got warmer coffee, you can shake it over ice too!

I included links to the foamer I use and my favorite (non-dairy) protein powder! Whey proteins can mess with my stomach and I want an easy to assimilate, natural, organic protein that my body can use with minimal stress. Use what works for YOU!

I use a shaker bottle at home and when I travel (I stuff it with protein or workout bands) - and then I only have ONE dish to clean!

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Shake or blend cold coffee and protein powder, pour in glass

  2. Foam milk in separate mug (something with higher sides as it will increase in volume).

  3. Spoon foamed milk on top of coffee protein mix

  4. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired and enjoy!
