Sweet Tahini Chocolate & Savory Herbed Feta + Egg
Börek is one of Turkey’s most beloved pastries, typically made with layers of filo (yufka) filled with everything from savory cheeses to sweet flavors. Here, I’ve taken two simple, traditional fillings to give you a taste of both worlds. Whether you’re in the mood for a savory pastry with feta and fresh herbs or a delightful sweet with tahini, honey, and dark chocolate, these börek recipes bring a little taste of Turkey right to your kitchen.
Thaw your phyllo in the fridge the night before!

Recipe 1: Sweet Tahini Chocolate Börek
Ingredients
4 sheets of phyllo dough thawed (about 100g)
4 tbsp tahini
2 tbsp honey
100g dark chocolate, chopped or grated
4 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
1 egg beaten with water (egg wash) or you can use more butter
Sesame seeds, brown sugar (optional)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Mix tahini with honey in a small bowl.
Lay out one sheet of filo, brush with melted butter, and fold it in half. Spread a thin layer of the tahini mixture over the surface and sprinkle with dark chocolate.
Roll or fold the pastry into a shape of your choice (rolls or layers both work well).
Place on a baking sheet, brush the top with more butter or egg wash, and sprinkle with sesame seeds and brown sugar if desired.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Serve warm for a gooey chocolate treat!
